Washcloth Rack

I picked up this old milk crate for $12 at a flea market. Set on its side on top of an aged dresser in my bathroom, I use it to conveniently serve up washcloths. Storage is key in accessories for my home.

E-mail me a digital image of your recycled treasure idea at editors@createanddecorate.com. If you would like to share, we will publish a few of the best ideas in future issues! Beverly Hotz, editor

Eggs and Bacon in Pan

I just love to re-purpose things.
I bought this blue enamel frying pan
for about $3.00.

I needlepunched the eggs and bacon design for it. You can almost hear them sizzling!

Thanks for a wonderful magazine
full of great ideas.

Pallet Table

I grabbed this wood pallet from the school where I teach before they threw it out. I added the small blue pieces of wood and legs to make a great picnic table.

Barrel Garbage Can

"This is an old barrel that I bought for $5.
It holds all of our recycling.
It would probably make a good laundry basket as well"

"I picked up an old, rusty Radio Flyer
from someone's junk pile and fixed it up
for my granddaughter."

Painted with flowers and butterflies,
Mary inserts a fuzzy pink bath rug
when taking her granddaughter for a ride!

toy box shelving
"I sanded, sealed and secured six vegetable crates together with wood screws to create toy storage in my son's play room. Adding baskets to fit in each was the perfect touch. Some local fruit/vegetable stands and or farmer's markets may give the vegetable crates to you. Otherwise they can be purchased fairly cheaply at most local antique stores or yard/garage sales."

Heather - Branchville, NJ

box end table

"Turning a long old box on its side
now acts as an end table next to my couch. Leaving the open part on the outside
also allows me to store things on the bottom
in a basket that is narrow enough to fit there."

ice pick paper towel holder

"For years I've used an old ice pick
(purchased for $3)
as a paper towel holder."

Claudia - Easton, PA
